Bank of Communications Co., Ltd. (the "Bank") was founded in 1908 and is one of the oldest banks in China as well as the note-issuing banks in modern China. In 1987, the bank opened after restructuring as the first bank in the form of a joint stock company. The bank was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in June 2005 and on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in May 2007. In 2023, the Bank is identified as a global systemically important bank (G-SIB) for the first time and ranked 9th in the “Top 1000 World Banks” published by The Banker magazine in the UK, demonstrating market recognition of persistent efforts.
The Frankfurt branch (the "Branch") was founded in 2007 and plays a role as a global foreign exchange center, a EURO clearing center, a platform for trading settlement and financing business, a base for business innovation. To fulfill the demands of investment between China and Europe, the Branch publishes series of products and offers one-stop service to make service faster and more efficient, committed to providing high-quality financial services for the economic and trading development of China and Germany. The Branch was established in accordance with Germany's Banking Act and is subject to supervision by the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin), The Federal Bank (Deutsche Bundesbank) and the Deposit Protection Fund etc. The main regulatory laws and regulations include the German Banking Act, Money Laundering Act, Payment Services Oversight Act. The Branch holds a full license of commercial bank and provides various banking services to customers within the framework of Banking Act, operates the following types of business in particular: deposits, transfers, settlements, treasury transactions, loans, trade finance, foreign exchange trading, guarantees and consulting, etc.
After opening in Germany, the Branch integrated very actively into local society, developed quickly, and employed a large number of local employees. The net profit and wealth scale were always at the top of all Chinese banks in Germany and played an important role in the economic and cultural exchange between China and Germany. The Branch has 7 departments including Marketing Department, Treasury Department, Accounting Department, Credit and Risk Department, Business Processing Center, IT Department, and Business Administration Department. There are currently about 40 Chinese and German employees.
